Likely Weather Conditions

Myanmar follows three seasons weather pattern. The summer begins March and last three months until May. This is the warmest time in Myanmar where the temperature reaches from 40°C to 50°C in the south especially in Bagan and Mandalay regions, while the Shan & Chin states may still have comfortable temperature around 20°C to 30°C. Due to the intense heat, it is almost impossible to visit during the day, typically from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Despite this problem, visitors can benefit from longer daylight, where the sunrise is approximately at 5:50am and sunset at about 6:45pm.

The southwest monsoon actually hits the southern coastal area and the delta region by mid May. And expect for the occasional cyclones up to end of June and the high humidity throughout the entire rainy season up to October. There will be regular rain in the mornings and evenings, with short showers in the afternoon. The two months of July and August can be say the middle of raining season where it can be rained for the entire week with short intervals. The average temperature in Yangon and other southern parts could be around 30C during the period of rainy season from June to October. The central Myanmar has much less rain comparing to the south and Shan or Chin Hills, making easier to visit any time of the day in Bagan & Mandalay regions while it can be cloudy in the evening so that you cannot expect the sunset in most days. It may not be almost impossible to visit Myanmar’s popular beaches like Ngapali & Ngwe Saung from June to October since the hotels and resorts tend to pause operating to prevent from the crucial storms and high tides, and heavy rain falls. All in all, the rainy season is not that preventing or less attractive to visit Myanmar. There are many benefits to be named by visiting in this period including pretty attractive packaged rates, special discounts from the leading hotels & resorts, easy to make booking, and not to mention peacefulness in visiting the highlights without needing to struggle with the fellow tourist crowd.

For most of the people, especially those visiting with the kids, the period from October to February will be the best bet since the rain stops (but there might be some cloudy days or even short showers), more sunny days, pleasant temperature throughout the day with cool evenings & mornings even at the central dry zones like Bagan, Mandalay, and Monywa etc. You’ll definitely need some warm clothes for visiting Shan & Chin Hills, and also in the northern Myanmar towns like Myitkyina.
